Casting technology covers a complete system including casting structural design, gating systems, feeding systems and venting systems. As core equipment for sand molding, molding machines rely on air pressure or hydraulic pressure to drive squeeze mechanisms and complete compaction of molding sand.
Early ordinary squeeze molding machines operate at 0.25~0.4MPa, with the drawback of insufficient hardness on sand molds far from the pressing surface. High-pressure molding technology gained widespread popularity in the 1950s, with working pressure above 0.7MPa. High-pressure squeeze heads are classified into flat squeeze heads, contour squeeze heads and multi-contact squeeze heads, among which high-pressure multi-contact molding machines are most widely used.
High-pressure multi-contact squeeze heads consist of numerous independently vertically movable contacts driven by hydraulic cylinders to output powerful pressure. During compaction, each contact automatically adjusts downward travel according to the height of the underlying pattern to guarantee uniform hardness across the entire sand mold. Most models are equipped with micro-vibration mechanisms combining vibration and squeezing, adapting to various complex patterns. The equipment generally adopts four-column structures divided into single-station and double-station types, fitted with rapid mold changing mechanisms to replace molds without production halt and sustain stable production efficiency.
Relying on high-pressure multi-contact molding technology, thin-walled, dimensionally precise and smooth-surface castings can be stably produced. Standardized control of squeeze pressure and vibration duration effectively eliminates defects such as sand expansion, blowholes and sand eyes caused by uneven sand mold hardness, widely applied in mass production of automotive parts, valves and engineering machinery castings.
